JOHOR BARU: Breakfast is the most important meal to start the day and this is especially so for candidates sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examination.

       To make sure they would not go into the examination centre on an empty stomach, a hotel here handed out a hearty breakfast for 63 underprivileged candidates from SMK Saint Joseph.

       SPM candidate Muhammad Amirul Suhairi was grateful to be given a packet of fried rice with fried chicken for his breakfast as he had to wake up in the wee hours to get ready for the exam.

       “It was such a surprise to know that we were getting breakfast.

       “It will keep our stomach full,” he said.

       Another candidate, Gaurav Singh Sandhu, said he was thankful for the meal.

       “The breakfast is a great help as it keeps us going when answering the SPM paper,” he added.

       SMK Saint Joseph principal Nadzaruddin Mohd Taib thanked the hotel for treating the students to breakfast before the start of the SPM written examination.

       “I am happy to see the students smiling and cheerful. Mornings can be hard for them when they have to skip breakfast.

       “The students come from hardcore poor families living around here,” he said.
