Two men were found shot, one fatally, Monday night in the Bellevue neighborhood of Southeast Washington, according to D.C. police.

The shootings occurred about 9 p.m. in the 4300 block of Halley Terrace SE. Police said officers responding to the call were flagged down by one of the victims on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., about two blocks from Halley Terrace. Police said he was taken to a hospital and treated for an injury that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police said officers then learned a second man had been shot in the same incident and had been taken by private vehicle to a hospital. Police said that person later died. Police identified him as Melvin Kenneth Dock, 23, with no fixed address.

According to a police report, one of the victims told detectives that the shooting occurred during an attempted carjacking of a white Infiniti sedan. A D.C. police spokesman said investigators are exploring other possible motives.
