A man was fatally shot Friday in Southeast Washington, the D.C. police said.

       Mark Johnson, 57, of Southeast, was shot about 12:20 p.m. in the 4500 block of Benning Road SE and died at a hospital, the police said.

       Information about who shot him or a motive for the shooting was not available.

       The site is near the Benning Road Metro station and in the Benning Ridge/Marshall Heights area. It is on a street that is partly commercial and partly residential and is near the northern end of a stretch of Benning Road where numerous gunfire incidents have occurred.
