KULAI: The flash floods that have been plaguing this area for many years must be addressed, says Shen Poh Kuan, the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Senai seat.
Shen, 45, who was born and raised in Kampung Baru Seelong in Senai, said that flash floods have been a major problem for the people and needed to be tackled immediately.
“During my time as a Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) councillor, I had brought up this issue many times and over the years, we have seen some improvements.
“However, the problem remains at certain areas, especially on federal roads.
“We also saw this happening recently on Monday where several areas in Kulai were flooded after heavy rain for about an hour.
“This is a major problem that needs to be taken seriously and I will make sure that it receives the attention it deserves if I am voted as the assemblyman for Senai,” said Shen, who was MPKu councillor for over a decade.
He said he would bring the matter to the state assembly and ask from an allocation from the Federal Government to improve the drainage system along the affected roads if he is elected as the assemblyman.
He said this when met during a walkabout at TJ Mart here in Senai, Kulai, which is also one of the places that was hit by the flash floods on Monday.
Apart from the flood issue, the Kulai MCA division chief said that he also wants to focus on developing Senai, which is home to the sole international airport in Johor.
“Kulai is an unique district that has villages, residential and commercial areas as well as the Senai International Airport.
“As such, we need to develop the area and promote our uniqueness to foreign investors.
“I hope to be able to pull in more investors to the area so that we can offer the people, including young people, more employment opportunities.
“Development is key to improving the quality of lives of the people in Senai,” said the Victoria University graduate.
He added that he is no stranger to the people of Senai as he has been going to the ground to meet and listen to their problems during his time as a councillor.
Shen will be facing a three-cornered fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Wong Bor Wang and Perikatan Nasional’s Yeo Kwee Kwang in the Johor state election.
