JOHOR BARU: A total of 87,486 Form Four and Five students in Johor will be vaccinated under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for teenagers.

State Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Mazlan Bujang said the public school students started receiving their vaccinations on Monday (Sept 20) at 173 schools throughout Johor, which would be opened in stages.

“The first dose will be given to the students by November and the second dose is expected to be completed by the end of December.

“The response from students has been positive so far, with most of them eagerly signing up for the vaccination programme via MySejahtera.

“I did receive some feedback from parents who said they are not ready for their child to be vaccinated due to the lack of internet access, transportation or they are unable to take leave from work to accompany their child to the vaccination centres at the schools.

“However, I believe these issues will be ironed out soon,” he said after visiting the vaccination centre at SMK Taman Daya on Monday.

He added that for SMK Taman Daya, the 325 students would be injected Monday included 21 are from the Pendidikan Khas class, 165 Form Four students and 139 from Form Five. Mazlan also said 29 students did not turn up for the jabs.

He said the vaccination for Form Three students and below would be carried out according to the Health Ministry’s instructions once the vaccination for Form Four and Five students was completed.
