AN NHS nurse has been struck off after a patient died during a midnight sex romp with her in a hospital car park.

Penelope Williams, 42, failed to call for an ambulance when the man blacked out in the back of his car with his trousers around his ankles.

She admitted to having a year-long fling with the dialysis patient that she hid from bosses at the hospital in Wrexham, North Wales.

The man - known only as Patient A - suffered a heart attack during a secret late night rendezvous, a disciplinary committee heard.

The panel were told Williams did not call 999 for help and instead rang a colleague while "crying and distressed" to perform CPR on her semi-naked lover.

The married nurse has now been struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which said she had "brought the nursing profession into disrepute."

The panel heard Williams began working in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board as a registered nurse in a renal haemodialysis unit in October 2019.

Patient A regularly attended the unit for dialysis treatment and a secret sexual relationship between the pair started in January 2021.

A year later, the lovers met up in the student nursing car park at a private hospital before the man became gravely unwell.

Williams rang a fellow nurse - known only as Colleague One - in distress at 23.56pm begging for help, the committee heard.

The co-worker told her to call an ambulance while she rushed over, but Williams failed to do so.

Colleague One found Patient A was "unresponsive" upon her arrival and called for an ambulance and the police before beginning CPR on the man.

The presenting officer told the hearing: "When they took Patient A out of the car his trousers were down.

"Patient A subsequently died from heart failure and chronic kidney disease triggered by a medical episode."

Williams initially told cops that the late patient had messaged her on Facebook saying he was unwell, so she "came to meet him".

But she later confessed to police they had been having an affair and had previously arranged to meet at the car park that evening.

The nurse, who has a partner, said they had been in the car for up to 40 minutes "just talking", when the man "started groaning and suddenly died."

The Health Board conducted a disciplinary hearing in May last year and fired Williams in wake of the intimate relationship with a patient which she did not disclose.

They expressed concern that Williams had not called an ambulance after he collapsed, even after being prompted by her colleague.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council ruled she had breached guidance on clear sexual boundaries and struck her from the register.

She broke three rules - entering an intimate and/or sexual relationship with Patient A, communicating with Patient A via Facebook and/or on the telephone and meeting up with Patient A outside of the working environment, the hearing was told.

The panel said: "Mrs Williams has acted to put patients at risk of harm by failing to contact emergency services when the patient became unwell and when prompted by her colleague.

"Mrs Williams has brought the nursing profession into disrepute and breached one of the fundamental tenets of the profession by engaging in an intimate relationship with a patient in breach of guidance on clear sexual boundaries."

Williams was banned for a minimum of 18 months, when she can reapply.
