GEORGE TOWN: Former Penang Gerakan chairman and three-term assemblyman Teng Chang Yeow has quit the party.
Gerakan secretary-general Mak Kah Keong confirmed that Teng, 57, handed in his resignation about two months ago.
“We asked him to reconsider, but to no avail. As for the reason, it was written as personal,” he said.
Teng became a municipal councillor at the age of 28 and later was an assemblyman from 1995 to 2008.
He was a state executive council member and had a direct hand in completing the inscription of George Town as a Unesco (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) World Heritage Site.
