       EVERY August, a grandfather at Felda Kota Gelanggi Dua in Pahang will add “vroom” to the patriotic spirit by going around his neighbourhood on his vintage Vespa decorated with the national flag.

       Rosman Marman, 71, aka Wak Rosman, said he always felt the excitement in August when he raised the Jalur Gemilang to welcome the National Day month, Mingguan Malaysia reported.

       Wak Rosman’s wife, Siti Mutrika Mohd Noor, 64, would join him – waving a large Jalur Gemilang – as he takes his beloved 53-year-old motorcycle for a spin.

       Before the pandemic hit, he would ride his Jalur Gemilang-adorned Vespa to Jerantut or Bandar Pusat Jengka to participate in the National Day celebration.

       “Last year, I could only ride my Vespa around the area due to the movement restrictions,” he said.

       He acquired the 1968 Vespa Piaggio from a friend for RM550 in May 1978, adding that it still worked well and he even rode it all the way to Perlis and back to Pahang.

       “I am devoted to this Vespa as much as I am loyal to my country, and will not let it go at any price,” said Wak Rosman, who has 12 grandchildren.
