Kemi Badenoch has branded David Tennant a “bigot” while blasting the actor for telling her to “shut up” in a row over transgender rights.
The Equalities Minister accused the former Doctor Who star of being a “rich, Lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology” in a social media post today.
Mr Tennant, who won Celebrity Ally at an LGBT awards ceremony on Friday, received cheers and applause when he said of the Cabinet minister: “I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up.”

The politician has spoken out about the Conservatives’ pledge to change the 2010 Equality Act, which she said would “clarify that sex in the law means biological sex and not new, redefined meanings of the word”.
Ms Badenoch said this change would protect women and girls’ spaces.
Hitting back on X, formerly Twitter, she said: “I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls.
“A rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology he can’t see the optics of attacking the only black woman in government by calling publicly for my existence to end.

“Tennant is one of Labour’s celebrity supporters. This is an early example of what life will be like if they win.
“Keir Starmer stood by while Rosie Duffield was hounded. He and his supporters will do the same with the country. Do not let the bigots and bullies win."
Sir Keir, the Labour leader, said in 2021 it was “not right” for Ms Duffield, a Labour MP who has stressed the importance of biological sex, to say that only women have a cervix.

In its election manifesto, Labour has committed to making it easier for people to legally change gender, which has prompted Tory warnings about loopholes for sexual predators.
In his acceptance speech, Tennant said: “I think I suppose if I’m honest I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it, as long as they’re not hurting anyone else, should merit any kind of special award or special mention, because it’s common sense, isn’t it? It is human decency. We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on.”
