KLANG: After a long and fruitful tenure as a DAP central executive committee (CEC) member, Bandar Baru Klang assemblyman Datuk Teng Chang Khim has finally bid farewell to the position.

Teng had announced on Dec 3 last year that he would not be defending his post at the party’s national congress Sunday (March 20).

In a touching entry on his Facebook page Saturday (March 19), Teng reiterated that he will not be contesting this time around.

“As announced on Dec 3, 2020, my tenure as a CEC member will end tomorrow after 26 years of service, being elected in every CEC election I participated in," Teng said in his post.

He thanked everyone for the trust and mandate that had been given to him throughout his long tenure in the CEC.

“Forgive me for all my mistakes and shortcomings," Teng said in his post, which was conveyed in English, Malay and Mandarin.

Teng, who is also Selangor Industry and Trade Committee chairman, had expressed his intent of stepping down from politics last year.

When contacted on Saturday, the six-term assemblyman said he would not be attending the congress on Sunday.

His departure from politics is expected to leave a big dent in Selangor DAP.

Last year, in an exclusive interview with The Star, Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris had said that Teng had performed well in his role as executive councillor in charge of industry and trade.

“Teng is good but I don’t think he will stand anymore next year as he wants to retire.

“I hope the government will take him and put him in a good position in Selangor like in a GLC (government-linked company) or whatever," Sultan Sharafuddin had said.
