JOHOR BARU: Authorities have been urged to look into living conditions at privately-run quarantine centres for Covid-19-positive foreign workers and ensure all standard operating procedures are adhered to.
Pasir Gudang MCA deputy public complaints bureau chief Ang Tun Chek said here on Sunday (Sept 5) that he was informed that the environment at a quarantine centre in Iskandar Puteri for foreign workers was "terrible".
Ang added that according to the complainant, employers had to fork out RM78 per worker per day to cover expenses.
He said the complainant found that those under quarantine were not following standard operating procedures and mingled with one another without physical distancing.
Ang said the complainant also alleged that those under quarantine could freely smoke inside the room while the floors and toilets were very dirty.
Ang said the complainant claimed he had discussed the matter with the quarantine centre provider who instead blamed it on the foreign workers interned there.
He added that the information would be channelled to the relevant authorities, including the state Health Department for further action.
