SHAH ALAM: More than RM300mil worth of drugs have been seized by Selangor police between January and October this year, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The Selangor police chief said this at a press conference at the state police headquarters on Tuesday (Nov 7).

“We have also successfully dismantled 29 drug distribution syndicates, including four cases of illegal drug laboratories in Selangor," he said.

According to police statistics, the top three narcotics seized were syabu (2.2 tonnes), ganja (408kg) and heroin (169kg).

"We also arrested 18,911 suspects between January to October this year. From that number, a total of 609 drug pushers have been investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which, if found guilty, would lead to either the death penalty by hanging or life imprisonment with 15 lashes.

"In the last five years, 24 people have been sentenced to death under Section 39B," he said.

Comm Hussein also thanked the public for providing valuable information that had led to successful drug busts in the state.
