A HEARTBROKEN family have paid tribute to their 23-year-old son who died after reportedly being ambushed by a machete-wielding gang.

       Aurman Singh had been a passenger in the delivery van when he "suffered a slash wound" on Monday in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

       The DPD driver was killed in Shrewsbury, Shropshire on Monday

       Cops and emergency services rushed to the scene but could not save Aurman, who lived in Smethwick, West Mids.

       Yesterday, four men aged 24, 22, 26 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

       Earlier today, West Mercia Police confirmed a fifth person was arrested in Peterborough on suspicion of assisting an offender.

       Aurman’s family have made a moving tribute after his death: "There are no words that could ever explain the impact this tragedy has had on me and my family.

       Residents told of their horror after witnessing the aftermath of the brutal attack.

       One told MailOnline: “I saw four men, carrying a variety of weapons, jump into the Audi and two others get into the front of a white Mercedes.

       “None of them looked as though they had stolen anything.

       "They didn't seem to be carrying any parcels from the van.

       "They just had weapons which looked to be a machete, baseball bat and what appeared to be some sort of shovel.

       “The cars did a three-wheel turn and they sped off.

       "One of the men shouted something before they escaped but I couldn't hear what they said."

       Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bellamy of West Mercia Police said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Aurman at this difficult time.

       “Our investigation is underway with officers carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances that led to Aurman’s murder.

       “We know Aurman was a delivery person however at this stage we do not believe this was the motive for his death and we are not investigating this as a robbery.

       “We believe those involved are known to each other and are not local to Shrewsbury or the wider West Mercia Police area.

       “We have so far arrested five people in connection with the murder and are progressing all other lines of enquiry to locate and arrest outstanding suspects.”
