KANGAR: A former pupil loved her alma mater so much that she spent tens of thousands of ringgit to convert the school canteen into a cafe.
Analiza Ahmad, now the proprietor of western food restaurant “Ana Burger D’Cafe”, spent about RM27,000 to convert the canteen of SK Bintong.
“I won the tender to manage the school canteen at the end of last year.
“This is the first time I have been entrusted by the school and it is an honour for me,” the mother of two told Bernama.
The canteen, now called Ana Bintong D’Cafe, features colourful fences and seats surrounded by potted plants.
Asked why she was willing to spend so much on renovations when it did not promise big returns, Analiza said she wanted to raise the reputation of her alma mater.
“As a former student, this is the only contribution I can afford to repay the education the school has given me because it was here that I learned to read and count to achieve my current success,” said the 43-year-old.
Analiza has also diversified the menu so that pupils would not get bored with the dishes served at the cafe, all priced from RM1 to RM2 per meal.
“Among the special menu available here are nasi minyak, macaroni and spaghetti,” she said.
