David Lammy has been blasted for 'hypocrisy' (Image: PA)
David Lammy has been accused of hypocrisy after flying on the same government plane that Angela Rayner criticised Tories for using.
The Foreign Secretary used the Airbus A321 private jet to head to New Delhi in India today.
But when Liz Truss travelled on the jet in 2022 the Labour deputy leader branded it as “obscene”, “brazen” and a “disgusting waste” of taxpayer money for “vanity and comfort”.
Shadow home secretary James Cleverly said past Labour criticism of the use of government jets "reeks of hypocrisy".
He said: "I’m not going to criticise David Lammy for using the government plane.

"The Foreign Secretary must be able to travel directly, flexibly, and at short notice.
"But the criticism of me from Labour when I flew on government business now reeks of hypocrisy."
Ms Truss was foreign secretary when she came under fire from Ms Rayner for using the plane for a trip to meet government officials in Australia in January 2022.

She added: "It is obscene that government ministers are jet-setting yet are hiking taxes and refusing to do anything to help working families when they are feeling the pinch of the cost of living crisis.
"Tories waste disgusting amounts of public money on their own vanity and comfort, Labour wants to see families see a cut to energy bills, that is the difference."
Mr Lammy was contacted for comment.
