IPOH: Police have received two reports over claims that two students from a school here have died after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the reports were lodged on Wednesday (Sept 29) by an officer from the district Education Department, and the principal from SMK Tasek Damai.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said police will investigate the reports under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult and provocation that could lead to a breach of public peace.
"We will also be investigating the matter under Section 505(b) of the same Code for making a statement with intent to cause, or is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public or to any section of the public," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The public is advised not to easily trust statements that were issued without verifying with the responsible bodies," he said.
A video has gone viral on social media, in which a woman had claimed that several individuals, including the students from the school, have passed away after getting their vaccination.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash had earlier on Wednesday said that the claim was not true.
He said a female Form Five student from the school had died on August 18 at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital due to health issues, as she has diabetes and was also positive with Covid-19.
"Another male student from the school died at the same hospital on Sept 17 due to heart disease.
"Both were not vaccinated. Their deaths occurred before the vaccination programme for teenagers in Perak started on Sept 20," he added.
