IPOH: A total of 3,777 investigation papers have been opened by Perak police under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act from January to September this year.
“About 94% or 3,543 have been brought to court,” deputy Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Santarai said on Tuesday (Nov 2).
Speaking after a ceremony on the disposal of narcotics case items at the state police contingent headquarters here, he also said more than RM58mil worth of drugs have been disposed of by Perak police since 1988.
The drugs were from 4,991 court cases that have been closed over the course of three decades, he added.
According to DCP Mazlan, the drugs would be sent to a facility in Bukit Pelanduk, Negri Sembilan, to be destroyed.
On a separate matter, he said 312 compound notices were issued from Oct 11 to 20 for disobeying standard operating procedures (SOP) under the National Recovery Plan.
He said most of the offences involved failure to check in with the MySejahtera app at premises and not wearing face masks.
“We will continue with our monitoring efforts at housing and commercial areas to ensure people adhere to the SOP,” he said.
“We will advise first and will not hesitate to issue compound notices if people continue to disobey the law,” he added.
