Floods: Two districts in Johor close relief centres as situation improves

       JOHOR BARU: Two districts in Johor have fully recovered from floods after all of their temporary relief centres (PPS) have been closed down and evacuees have been allowed to return home on Thursday (Jan 6).

       State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that as of 8pm, the number of flood victims stands at 4,065 people from 1,115 families who are located in four districts namely Segamat, Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat.

       "Only one PPS in Kluang, which was opened during the flood, has been closed since 8.30am, while six PPS in Mersing have been gradually closed from 8.30am to 6pm.

       "Segamat remains the district with the highest number of victims with 2,464 people followed by Muar (809), Tangkak (739) and Batu Pahat (53)," he said in a statement here.

       He added that the situation in Kampung Simpang Loi, Segamat, also remains unchanged, with 423 victims from 125 families placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tambang PPS.

       "There are six locations that are recording dangerous river level readings, namely Sungai Muar near Buloh Kasap, Kampung Olak Sepam, Sungai Gemas and Panchor in Segamat, Sungai Muar in Muar, and Sungai Plentong in Johor Baru.

       "Eight roads in Segamat have also remained closed to all vehicles, namely Jalan Kuala Paya, Jalan Puting, Jalan Tumang, Jalan Serakek, Jalan Pogoh, Jalan Balai Polis Buluh Kasap, Jalan Senai - Gemas, and Jalan Felda Medoi.

       "The road in Jalan Felda Bukit Aping in Kota Tinggi has also been closed," he said adding that two roads in Muar are closed, namely Jalan Muar - Labis (Jambatan Sungai Tui), and Jalan Muar - Labis (Galeri Bukit Kepong), and one road in Tangkak at Jalan Durian Condong.
