JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor has gone down slightly from 4,496 at 8am to 4,346 as of noon on Friday (Jan 7).

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the number of families involved also dropped from 1,242 families to 1,205 families in the same period.

“Four temporary relief shelters (PPS) have also been closed in Tangkak, namely SK Simpang Lima Darat, Sekolah Agama Simpang Lima Darat, SK Ledang, and SK Serom 8.

“The families have been allowed to return home as situations have improved in their areas,” he said in a statement here.

He added that the sunny weather has also shown a drop in the river levels that are recording dangerous readings, namely Kampung Olak Sepam, Panchor, and Bukit Kepong near Sungai Muar, Muar, and Buloh Kasap in Segamat.

“Some of the roads in Segamat that were previously closed have been reopened to all vehicles, namely Jalan Tumang, Jalan Jabi, Jalan Tungku Tiga, Jalan Felda Medoi, and Jalan Muar-Segamat.

“The remaining roads that are closed are Jalan Kuala Paya, Jalan Puting, Jalan Serakek, Jalan Pogoh, and Jalan Balai Polis Buluh Kasap,” he said.
