If the polls are to be believed, the Tories are tipped for Portillo-style defeats with the possibility of big beasts losing their seats including Rishi Sunak, who was first elected to the Richmond constituency in 2015.
But is all hope truly lost for the Tories? I ventured to two market towns within his area to see what people there are thinking of his chances of both retaining his seat as an MP and also of running the country.
Stokesley was my first stop. A gorgeous market town surrounded by farms and greenery. My first observation was that there are more Labour posters and placards than I’d ever seen in the area previously.

And, it seems, people there at least are pretty split there on if they will be casting their vote for Rishi.

Zanika Wallis, 19, from Northallerton will be voting for Rishi (Image: North News)
Graham Clarke, 71, lives in the town and is now retired having worked for the NHS as a consultant.
He said: “I hope they [the Conservatives] get their arses kicked. I think they are a bunch of… you can add anything you want in there.”
Graham is undecided about who to vote for - but it won’t be Rishi. He added: “I don’t know anyone who has a good word to say about him or the Government in general.”
However Carol Baker, 71, a retired secretary and widow with no children who also lives in the town, is very much Team Rishi and has already cast her vote.
She said: “I voted for Rishi and I think he is good. He has done a lot for Stokesley.” She added: “For Stokesley, Rishi is the man.”
Next up I venture into a High Street butchers - Powell’s - which has some very tasty food on display. The two workers are totally at odds with each other on the topic of Rishi.
Alison Allinson, 61, said: “I will be voting Conservative. My family has always voted Conservative.”
But she conceded that she thinks “it’s going to be Labour across the board” and her co-worker, who didn't want to be named will be helping Labour's efforts.
The next chap I talk to also wasn’t so keen. Martin Lloyd, 69, is from nearby Yarm and is a retired chartered surveyor.
Martin says he’s already voted postally “and it wasn’t for the Conservatives” citing party gate and Brexit as his major issues.
Business owner Derek Slack, 79, is married to Linda and they have two children and four grandchildren. They live in Stokesley are are Rishi backers.
He said: “I think Rishi will maintain his seat here.” “Who wants the country to be run by unions?” he added.

After my trip to Stokesley I was keen to get the thoughts of those who live in Rishi’s well-heeled market town of Northallerton. He has an impressive mansion just four miles out of the town in a village called Kirby Sigston.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I definitely felt like I was entering Rishi’s domain, with his placards prominent on the way into town.
The gossip at the pub is also pro-Rishi, with one woman saying he loves a Wetherspoons breakfast in the town. I was keen to chat to some younger voters - and spoke to a young women running a sandwich shop.
Zanika Wallis, 19, is the owner of Dolcie Deli who has done fitness classes in the town with Rishi and his wife and says they've always been super friendly.
She said: “I will be voting for him. I know Reform are doing good things but they will just split the vote.”
Zanika is particularly impressed with his efforts to maintain emergency care at The Friarage hospital. Keith Blewitt, 68, and his wife Denise, 64, are from nearby Darlington - but are also firm Rishi fans.
“He brought the Treasury to Darlington,” says Keith of Rishi’s relocation of part of the department to Teesside.
Denise said: “He brought lots of jobs to Darlington - and he used to come up regularly to work from the office.”
Retired teacher Susan Jenkins thinks Rishi is the man for the job and her dad Stanley, 93 wholeheartedly agrees. They both live in the area.
She said: “I have already voted. Let’s put it this way - Rishi is one of the best constituency MPs I have ever had."

Susan also cites his saving the local hospital and his response to flooding in the area as reasons why he has her backing.
Dad Stanley said: “I think Rishi has done a brilliant job and I think he will get in here.”
So it seems today in Northallerton at least Rishi has plenty of support and there is hope for the Conservatives yet. But it remains to be seen if that will be reflected across the country on Thursday.
