KUALA TERENGGANU: The second day of floods in Terengganu saw a steep rise in the number of victims as 3,434 people from 985 families were evacuated.
On Friday, a total of 1,237 people from 339 families sought temporary shelters at flood relief centres (PPS) statewide.
More PPS were opened to evacuees, bringing the total in five flood-hit districts to 67.
State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said Dungun became the latest district to be hit by floods with 69 people from 24 families in four PPS.
Kemaman recorded the highest number of evacuees, followed by Hulu Terengganu, Setiu and Besut.
In Kelantan, the number of flood victims had also increased to 2,186 people from 622 families yesterday from 400 people (113 families) on Friday.
The Social Welfare Department Disaster Info app also stated that 30 PPS had been opened, nine each in Tanah Merah and Kuala Krai, seven in Pasir Mas and five in Jeli.The Department of Irrigation and Drainage portal at https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my reported that five main rivers in Kelantan had reached the danger level.
The rivers are Sungai Lanas in Air Lanas, Jeli; Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah; Sungai Kelantan in Temangan, Machang; Sungai Lebir in Kampung Tualang, Kuala Krai and Sungai Kelantan in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas. — Bernama
