Sarah Ferguson heartbreak as she explains how mother made her feel 'worthless'

Sarah Ferguson revealed that she has begun writing her book just weeks after she underwent surgery following a breast cancer diagnosis in the latest episode of her podcast.

The 63-year-old Duchess of York told how she is “excited” to be writing her third book, admitting that she is enjoying “escaping into her world”.

Last month, Fergie was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram screening.

The grandmother of four is now recuperating in the royal residence she shares with Prince Andrew, Royal Lodge, following an eight-hour mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

But speaking on the podcast Tea Talk she co-hosts with friend Sarah Thomson, Fergie said she has “thrown herself” into her writing, enjoying exploring her “huge” imagination.

The Duchess, speaking on the episode released on Thursday, said: “I’m on my third book now and it’s very very exciting.

“I’ve thrown myself into writing and it is the best place because you escape into your world but to come out, you have to almost soar out of the imagination.”

Fergie has released two historical fiction novels already, Her Heart for a Compass in 2021, and A Most Intriguing Lady in March this year.

In her latest work, she said she is exploring “all aspects of love” and will be setting the book in 1870.

The Sunday Times bestselling author said she has “really begun understanding where she’s going”, adding: “It’s seriously going to be one of my best achievements.”

Fergie has been using her podcast to encourage others to get screened for breast cancer after she underwent an operation in London’s King Edward VII Hospital in June.

She told how she had come to view her cancer as an “enormous friend” which is like a “shield of protection”.

Over the last few weeks, she has been recuperating at home, watching Wimbledon and writing hundreds of letters to those who have shown her an “outpouring of kindness”.

The Duchess has written 26 books with her first being a children’s book Budgie at Bendick's Point published when she was still married to Andrew in 1989.
