MERSING (Bernama): The tiger reportedly spotted by members of the public in Jalan Jemaluang here on Wednesday (Oct 27) is believed to be different from the one seen at the Lenggor Forest Reserve in Kluang last week.
Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Aminuddin Jamin said this was because of the considerable distance between the locations of the two tiger sightings.
"However, anyone who comes across a tiger is urged to inform Perhilitan for further action.
"Do not get out of your vehicle, throw objects or injure the animals as this may prompt them to react (aggressively)," he said when contacted by Bernama Friday (Oct 29).
He said his team always monitored the Lenggor Forest Reserve and installed cameras to facilitate efforts to track the movement of the animals.
"Tigers are solitary in nature but the location where it was spotted was in the Endau-Rompin National Park, which is its habitat and roaming area,” he said.
On Oct 20, the media reported that two video clips, which had gone viral, showed several individuals who had stumbled upon the tiger in the Lenggor Forest Reserve honking at the animal.
Then, on Oct 27, Mohd Shahrum Salleh, 36, and his wife, Nurhidayahlaily Su'alman, 32, claimed they spotted a tiger while driving along Jalan Jemaluang.
Shahrum, when contacted by Bernama, said he and his wife, who provide sanitation services, were on their way to Felda Tenggaroh when they came across the tiger.
"We were shocked when we saw a tiger sitting on the side of the road and I stopped the car a little farther because I was worried. Then it got up and headed into the forest," he said, adding that his wife managed to snap some photos. - Bernama
