PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be meeting the top leadership of Perikatan Nasional over Umno's decision to not continue the bipartisan agreement between the government and Pakatan Harapan, says PAS.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the meeting with Ismail Sabri would involve himself, Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and the president of other component parties.
"On the MOU, it will be a joint decision. A meeting has been scheduled with the prime minister and the Perikatan chairman as well as other component parties.
"We agree that any decision must be made collectively," said Abdul Hadi to reporters when met after an event in Terengganu on Friday (April 15) afternoon.
The Marang MP also said Umno's decision not to continue with the MOU was solely the party's decision, and pointed out that the government was presently dominated by Perikatan.
"About 70 seats are from Perikatan, in addition to Umno's seats. So for Umno, that's just a decision by the party," said Abdul Hadi.
Presently, the Perikatan coalition consists of PAS' 17 MPs, Part Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (32 MPs), and Sabah STAR's one MP.
The government is presently being led by Perikatan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) 18 MPs, and Barisan's 42 MPs, which consists of Umno's 38 MPs, MCA (two), and MIC (one).
Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi said PAS was undecided over its prime minister candidate for the 15th General Election.
"The people will decide (on the prime minister). So we leave it to the people," added Abdul Hadi.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in a statement on Thursday (April 14) evening, said the supreme council had unanimously proposed Ismail Sabri as its prime minister candidate for the 15th General Election.
Umno also said that the supreme council decided that the MOU between Putrajaya and the government should not be continued.
The decision not to extend the MOU was reaffirmed by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Friday (April 15), saying that the MOU should not be extended after it expires on July 31.
In an event in Putrajaya on Friday (April 15) evening, Ismail Sabri said the government would abide by the decision made by Umno and the supreme council not to extend the MOU after July 31.
