PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 outbreak at a higher learning institute in Hulu Selangor has resulted in the discovery of 96 confirmed cases.
Called the Sejantung cluster, the outbreak was uncovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted on students and staff of the institution, which is located in Kampung Baru Sejantung in Kalumpang.
Some 152 individuals have been screened, of which 96 tested positive.
The cluster is the largest of 18 new ones announced by the Health Ministry in its daily Covid-19 press statement on Wednesday (July 7).
This includes nine community clusters, six workplace-related outbreaks and two high-risk group clusters.
The biggest of the new community clusters is one in Kampung Siol Kandis, Kuching, which stems from a funeral.
Some 213 attendees of the funeral between June 2 to June 4 underwent a screening exercise, in which 69 people tested positive.
As for workplace clusters, one of them is an outbreak involving workers of a factory in Kawasan Perindustrian Nilai in Negri Sembilan.
From 1,300 people who underwent a targeted screening exercise, 68 have tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Parit Mahang cluster is one of two outbreaks at nursing homes which have been categorised as high-risk group clusters.
The cluster has so far confirmed 45 positive cases from a screening exercise conducted on staff and residents of the facility which is located at Bestari Jaya in Kuala Selangor.
There are 850 active Covid-19 clusters in the country currently monitored by the Health Ministry.
