Covid-19: 29 new clusters, 19 linked to workplaces

       PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 29 new Covid-19 clusters on Thursday (July 8), bringing the number of active ones nationwide to 855.

       Of the 29 new clusters, 19 are workplace-related outbreaks.

       The biggest of the new clusters is an outbreak among workers of a construction site in Bandar Sri Permaisuri in Kuala Lumpur.

       At least 132 cases are confirmed, following a targeted screening exercise conducted on some 201 workers.

       Another large cluster is an outbreak at a factory in Kawasan Perindustrian Nilai in Negri Sembilan, where 103 cases were found from a screening exercise.

       Eight other new clusters are community outbreaks.

       One of the clusters involves residents in Bandar Baru Sentul in Kuala Lumpur, where a community screening exercise was conducted.

       Out of 311 individuals who have been screened, 55 tested positive.

       There is also one cluster linked to students of a higher learning institution in Jalan Jenderam Hulu in Dengkil, Selangor.

       So far, 15 cases have been confirmed from a targeted screening exercise involving 153 students.

       There is also an outbreak at a nursing home in Taman Ria II in Muar, Johor which has been classified as a high-risk group cluster.

       So far, 29 residents of the home tested positive from 65 people who have been screened.

       The index case of this cluster is a 78-year-old man who started developing symptoms on June 28 before testing positive on July 6.
