ARAU: While the Harumanis mango can be cultivated in many places, the ones grown in Perlis are still superior in taste, maintains Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

       While acknowledging that the supply of Harumanis is bolstered by growers from outside Perlis, Azlan said the quality of Perlis’ Harumanis puts it at a class above the rest, which means it has a dedicated following of its own.

       Azlan, according to Bernama, said based on feedback, Perlis Harumanis is different from those were grown in other states.

       “Some have tried Harumanis mangoes from Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor, but they are different from those grown in Perlis,” he said at his Arau parliamentary Hari Raya open house on Thursday night.

       Earlier Thursday, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said his state is aiming to produce 600 tonnes of Harumanis per season by 2025 to meet the high demand in the country.

       To this, Azlan said the Perlis government had registered “Harumanis Perlis” as a trademark for Perlis-grown Harumanis mangoes, which prohibits other states from using the same name to market their fruits.
