KANGAR: Businesses and people in Perlis are hoping that the economy will recover and their daily lives go back to normal as the state enters Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) today.

Air-conditioner store marketing manager Alif Azree Azmi, 29, said business would certainly pick up now that the ban on inter-district travel has been lifted.

“We have been conducting our business and customer engagement through online platforms and honestly, this is not the best way to work for those in this industry.

“Most of the time, clients prefer walking into our store to check out the different models of air-conditioners on sale.

“With the inter-district travel ban lifted, this will allow people to move around and business can pick up momentum,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Alif Azree said many other businesses could also now operate efficiently and quickly, which would boost their operations.

“For us, our technicians and workers can now travel within the state for installation or maintenance work,” he added.

Alif Azree, who is based in Sena, Kangar, said many would be looking forward to dining in as well.

“However, I hope that the interstate travel ban will remain until the cases in the country subside.

“This is the only way to ensure Perlis stays safe and in the green zone,” he added.

Bakery and cake supplier owner Anis Suraya, 32, who is based in Chuping, is also happy that the restrictions have been eased.

“I think lifting the inter-district travel ban is fine but there’s no need for the ban on interstate travel to be lifted for the time being.

“As I supply and distribute cakes through runners and businesses, this latest development can help me recover.

“With more dine-ins, I am sure things will get better eventually. We just have to take it slow and not let our guard down, otherwise it could backfire,” she said.

Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man reminded the public to remain vigilant although the state is now in Phase Three of the NRP.

“This means that many daily activities and selected businesses can resume.

“Dine-ins at shops and restaurants are also now allowed.

“As such, we hope everyone will continue to be disciplined and abide by the standard operating procedure,” he said.
