KUALA LUMPUR: A total of RM1mil will be allocated for cleanup work at the Taman Bukit Permai landslide site in Ampang here, says Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.
“The funds will be distributed by the Ministry through the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
“This will be done after a complete risk analysis is completed by the relevant departments and our jurisdictions are for areas not involving hills and mountains because that falls under JKR. But for now our commitment is to provide RM1mil for cleanup works,” he said at the scene Friday (March 11).
He said if the need arises, more funds will be added.
He also urged the state government to complete the risk analysis as soon as possible so that the residents are informed.
State National Security Council chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar also urged that studies be conducted at the hills and elevated areas around the Ampang area to prevent future incidents.
“Especially in housing areas. We don’t want another Highland Tower,” he said at the scene.
The landslide in Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang at 5.54pm Thursday (March 10) took four lives and left one person injured. It also caused damage to 15 houses and 10 vehicles.
More than 200 residents from 48 houses were ordered to vacate their houses following cracks found at the landslide location due to land movements.
