Iran earthquake: At least one dead as two 6.3 quakes rock region – homes shake in Dubai

       The earthquakes struck the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan. The quakes measured 6.4 and 6.3 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the quakes were about 640 miles south of the capital Tehran.

       Iranian state TV said a 22-year-old man died after the quake hit Bandar Abbas province.

       During the tremors, an electric pole fell on top of him.

       Iranian state television added that tremors were felt in Kerman and Fars provinces, both located in the north of Hormozgan province.

       Iranian social media showed images of damage from the earthquakes.

       This included one of a wall that had collapsed on a car.

       Iran lies on a major tectonic plate seismic fault line.

       The country experiences one earthquake a day on average.

       Reports of the earthquake's aftershocks have come from as far as Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

       Dutch news agency BNO News reported the Iranian Red Crescent as stating: "The situation in Hormozgan Province was declared red.

       "Assessment teams were sent to the region to estimate the possible damage."

       Iranian news agencies reported that nearly 6,200 people live close to the quake's epicentre.

       Local media reported that a regional official stated: "The quake was felt in several southern Iranian cities in the Hormozgan province."
