The world's busiest airport with 92m passengers a year and cost £28bn to build

       Dubai, one of the world's most luxurious cities is home to the world's busiest airport.

       Last year, Dubai International Airport , which cost a stellar £28billion to build, saw a whopping 92.3 million passengers pass through its terminals - the highest annual traffic the airport has ever recorded.

       The city has been a popular destination amongst travellers worldwide for years and its tourism industry continues to grow. Within the first six months of 2024, Dubai hit new heights, as over nine million international visited jetted over to the sunny destination.

       As well as the tourism boom which made the city a trending destination, it is also a top choice for investment, attracting business clients from all over the world.

       Commenting on the achievement, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said: "Dubai International (DXB) is a global success story that reflects the UAE’s ability to transform bold ambitions into reality.

       "Consistently ranked as the world’s busiest airport for international passengers, its record annual passenger traffic this year is a testament to the relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence that continues to shape the UAE’s progress."

       It currently has connections to 272 destinations across 107 countries, making it also one of the world's most connected airport. The airport was also named the busiest airport of 2023 with a number of 86.9 million passengers passing through.

       The airport also features a £3.6 billion terminal which partly undergound and has a capacity of 43 million passengers.

       Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said:“Crossing the 92 million mark is a monumental achievement for DXB and for Dubai. It reflects the relentless drive, collaboration, and passion of the oneDXB community – our people and partners – who work together to deliver seamless, world-class experiences that leave a lasting impression on every guest.

       "This year’s results exceeded our forecast by almost 200,000 in guest numbers, underscoring the strength of DXB’s global appeal. Looking ahead, we are confident in reaching the milestone of 100 million annual guests by 2027."

       The city is already making moves to boost their tourism numbers.

       Dubai has invested $35 million (approximately £28 million) in expanding Dubai World Central also known as Al Maktoum International Airport.

       The mega-project will see the construction of an airport expected to have an annual capacity of 260 million people and is expected to be completed in 2030.
