PUTRAJAYA: Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Hermono can seek information from his country’s officials should he want to know discussions that transpired during a visit by two Malaysian ministers to Jakarta recently, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic).
The Home Minister said Hermono should find out from the officials, including Indonesia’s Home Minister, before voicing his views on matters discussed.
“The satisfaction of our discussion is between me and my counterpart. I suggest that he (Hermono) ask his minister if he wants to know what transpired,” he told a press conference on Thursday (Feb 10).
On claims by Hermono that Home Ministry officials were not present at key meetings, Hamzah said the ambassador should refer to his minister.
Hamzah and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan had made a trip to Jakarta last month to finalise issues related to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the recruitment and placement of Indonesian domestic workers.
The MoU was initially slated to be signed on Feb 7 and 8 but has been postponed to a new date sometime later this month.
Hermono was quoted as saying that key players in the implementation of clauses in the domestic worker MOU were missing from the negotiations and Indonesia was losing confidence in Malaysia’s commitment to ensuring the rights of its workers were safeguarded.
