PONTIAN: After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kukup International Ferry Terminal has finally reopened to the public.
Johor Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said 107 passengers arrived at the ferry terminal here at about 11.30pm on Thursday (May 19).
"We finally received the first batch of passengers from Tanjung Balai Karimun, Indonesia, after two years.
"Only one slot was opened on the first day of the ferry terminal reopening and on the second day, we will have two," he said after welcoming the passengers at the ferry terminal here on Thursday (May 19).
He noted that more slots would be made available gradually, depending on the demand from passengers from Malaysia and Indonesia.
"We expect to see between 300 and 400 passengers using the ferry terminal here in the first week.
"We will eventually open up five slots – the number available prior to the pandemic," said Mohamad Fazli, adding that each slot could accommodate 168 passengers.
