IPOH: An opposition assemblyman has claimed that people are changing their addresses on the MySejahtera app to move up their vaccination appointments.

Sandrea Ng (PH-Teja) said Kampar had recorded a 103% registration rate due to such “migration” by those from other districts.

“This ‘migration’ has caused Kampar folk to compete with more applicants for their shots.

“It has also caused inaccurate statistics to be recorded,” she said while debating Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah’s speech during the state assembly sitting yesterday.

She called on state Health Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin (PN-Selama) to find a solution to the problem.

“The people are not to be blamed for taking advantage of the weakness in the system as they are eager to get vaccinated,” she said.

“A lot of them are still waiting for their turn. The state health exco chairman needs to find a solution to ensure an optimum vaccination rate is achieved.”

Ng also called on the government to keep providing the latest and most accurate information on the Covid-19 situation to prevent people from panicking or being influenced by fake news.

Ng expressed her appreciation to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force in Kampar for taking action to resolve any problems raised.

Separately, state Women and Family Development, Welfare, Community Well-being and Non-Governmental Organisation Committee chairman Datuk Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin (PN-Kampung Gajah) said 80 people had committed suicide in Perak since the movement control order was implemented in March last year.

She said the highest contributing factor was mental stress, with 33 cases. Other factors or causes were finances (13), illnesses (four), drugs (three) and mental disorders (three), while 24 cases were due to unknown reasons.

Dr Wan Norashikin said this when replying to Datuk Mohamad Azhar Jamaluddin (PN-Changkat Jong) during a question-and-answer session.

She also said the state’s Women’s Development Department had formed a “Skuad Waja” (Women Anti-Crime Squad) to empower the community with psychosocial support and in-community activities.

“They will provide aid and refer cases to the relevant agencies for professional assistance,” she said.

Dr Wan Norashikin also noted that the state Health Department also has mental health and social support services at hospitals and health clinics to help those impacted by the pandemic.
