Local bus service, Stagecoach East revealed on an ongoing incident has prevented services in Serpentine Green. They said in a tweet: "Due to an ongoing incident at Tesco Hampton, we are unable to serve Serpentine Green. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

The bus service caters for Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire seven days a week.

But the incident meant services could not carry on this evening.

Phillip Whitley also claimed the police's bomb squad had arrived at the scene on Burmer Road.

He added: "Why has the Bomb Squad just arrived at Burmer Road, Peterborough?"

Express.co.uk has approached Tesco for clarification.

Jake Gardiner also added that a "suspicious package" had caused the evacuation.

He said: "Hampton Tesco evacuated due to suspicious package apparently."

It comes as a loud bang at a supermarket on Newmarket Road in Cambridge sparked an evacuation in July.

Other witnesses said they could smell chemicals near the supermarket.

The evacuation took place shortly before 11pm on July 14.

Tesco later reopened the store at 1pm following repairs.

A spokesperson said: "Our Cambridge Newmarket Road store is open as normal after a short closure this morning following a leak from the refrigeration system.

"The store was evacuated as a precaution and engineers are now working to repair the damaged unit.”
