PETALING JAYA: Some 100 residents of Taman Sri Nanding in Hulu Langat, Selangor, were left stranded by the floods over the weekend, forcing them to find shelter on the roof of Surau Al Munir Taman Sri Nanding for over 12 hours.
Puteri Nadia Natasha Mohamed Ramzan, 24, said she was informed of this by a friend who had been stuck on the roof since Saturday night.
Sinar Harian reported that rising water levels forced residents to seek higher ground.
“I was among the residents who managed to escape the disaster zone. However, some of my friends could not escape in time, and had to take shelter on the roof,” Puteri Nadia told the Malay daily.
It also reported that among those stranded on the surau roof were babies, pregnant women, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.
“Most of the houses here are submerged after Sungai Pangsun overflowed,” she said, adding that residents were rescued by the Civil Defence Force.
