PETALING JAYA: Travellers at KL International Airport's (KLIA) Terminal 1 are greeted with a local traditional “kampung” house that was built from scratch as part of the airport’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri decorations.

       Malaysia Airports, in a statement, said that the centrepiece attraction is a part of the "Jalinan Aidilfitri: Pesona Kraf Tekstil" campaign, celebrating local textiles.

       In a collaboration with Kraftangan Malaysia, the campaign – showcasing the vibrant and timeless beauty of batik, songket and tenun – will be running from March 16 until May 15 across all airports nationwide.

       “At KLIA Terminal 1, visitors are greeted by the captivating centrepiece attraction, Rumah Kampung Limas.

       “Standing proudly at 7m tall within the Departure Hall at Level 5, this masterpiece is meticulously built and crafted by the renowned master builder, Masadan Mohsin.

       “Stepping into this traditional setting, visitors are enveloped in the beauty of Malaysian textiles adorning every corner, from tablecloths to cushion covers and other textile-based decorative pieces, offering an immersion into Malaysia's vibrant cultural tapestry,” Malaysia Airports said in a statement Monday (April 1).

       Visitors can also participate in several activities which include "mencanting" batik (colouring batik) and immerse themselves in the "kampung" ambience around the village house replica.

       Malaysia Airports commercial services senior general manager Hani Ezra Hussin was hopeful that campaign would be able to capture the attention of local and international travellers and celebrate Malaysian textiles in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

       “The production of these textiles involves intricate craftsmanship passed down through generations. Skilled artisans meticulously created these fabrics using traditional techniques.

       “Malaysia Airports is proud to be showcasing Malaysia’s rich heritage of craftsmanship.

       “As part of our commercial reset strategy, we are focused on ensuring more joyful experiences for our visitors, and we hope they enjoy such beautiful artwork in KLIA,” she said.

       Throughout the holiday season, travellers using Malaysian airports nationwide stand a chance to get shopping vouchers and other rewards when spending at the airports.

       “Additionally, they can enjoy the spirit of Hari Raya in a special Seloka Bazaar Raya at KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

       “The bazaar features an array of vendors offering locally-made fashion, art, and crafts inspired by textiles,” the statement added.
