KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a viral message mocking a police compound notice issued to a person for crossing districts without permission, says Penampang police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim.

       He said the authorities are investigating the person who spread the message, which can be construed as an act of shaming a senior officer.

       “The message spread through WhatsApp humiliated a senior Penampang police officer who was carrying out enforcement duties in compliance with the standard operating procedure,” he said.

       He added the message read: “Travelling from Lido (KK) to Survey Supermarket (Ppang) without valid reason summoned for inter-district travel, RM5,000. Orang gila punya kerja?” (A mad man’s work?”)

       DSP Mohd Haris said the message referred to a compound notice issued by a senior police officer against an individual who was found to have made inter-district travel without permission.
