GEORGE TOWN (Bernama): After a raid on Monday (Aug 30), a beauty centre in Batu Uban was ordered closed by the authorities for offering Covid-19 testing cheaply and illegally.

       Penang Health Department private medical practice control unit chief assistant director, Dr Mohamed Iqbal Hamzah, said the raid was launched with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) at 11am after receiving information about the testing service.

       "Early investigations found that the beauty centre was offering Covid-19 testing without the supervision of an authorised person.

       "Even during the raid, the workers themselves were doing the test without a doctor or nurse present,” he said when contacted today.

       It is believed that the test cost just RM50 at the beauty centre and was in great demand with over 100 people coming for it since it was introduced two days ago, he said.

       Dr Mohamed Iqbal said the beauty centre is under further investigation and that the public should be cautious of cheaper prices compared to clinics. - Bernama
