KAMPALA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Five people were on Thursday killed in the western Uganda district of Kyegegwa after a passenger service vehicle they were traveling in rolled off the highway, police said.

       Vincent Twesige, spokesperson for Rwenzori West region, told Xinhua by telephone that three male adults, one female adult and a juvenile died on the spot.

       Twesige said preliminary investigation show that the vehicle veered off the road after a tyre burst.

       Earlier this month, 21 people were killed in an accident involving a bus along the same road.

       A police report released recently indicated that Uganda registered a 42 percent increase in accidents in 2021, with 17,443 crashes being reported. Of these, 3,757 were fatal.
