A man was shot and killed Tuesday night on the eastern edge of the Columbia Heights neighborhood, the D.C. police said.

       The shooting occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the 3400 block of Sherman Avenue NW, said Officer Sean Hickman, a police spokesman.

       Little was known immediately about the circumstances of the shooting. Sherman Avenue divides the Columbia Heights and Park View neighborhoods of Northwest Washington. The shooting was reported near the intersection with Park Road.

       It could not be learned Tuesday on which side of Sherman the shooting occurred.
