SIBU: The RM10.646bil state Budget 2022 which was approved by the state on Tuesday (Oct 12) is people-centric even though it would incur a RM610mil deficit, says Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The state Education, Science, and Technological Research Assistant Minister said the Sarawak government expected to spend more than its projected revenue of RM10.03bil but is targeting it brings would benefit to the people.
"The state will be spending more than its revenue but the state government is giving more space to the rakyat and the business community to return to normalcy," he said.
Dr Annuar said with more development projects expected next year, the benefits will flow to the people.
"This is important because if the government does not spend, there will not be many development projects and the business community will be affected.
"There will be fewer job opportunities and in the end, it is the people who will suffer. So this Budget is inclined to benefit the people," he said.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had earlier told the press that the state had approved the Budget after presenting it to assemblymen during a special meeting at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Tuesday (Oct 12).
He said the state has approved the Budget to help mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and accelerate economic recovery and growth in the state.
