M25 traffic latest: Eco mob ignore court order to target motorway near Heathrow Airport

The eco protesters have openly defied threats of jail by returning to the M25 in their latest move. Police have swarmed to the scene to tackle the protesters. A protester was dragged out of the road by a police officer during their bid to remove the eco mob.

Metropolitan Police has confirmed arrests were made and one lane has reopened following the protest at junction 14 leading to Heathrow Airport.

Insulate Britain is prepared to "happily accept the consequences" of their actions today, according to LBC.

A video showed around 50 protesters blocking the road.

An injunction against the protesters was granted to the National Highways last week.

This means that demonstrators "may be held to be in contempt of court and may be imprisoned, fined or have their assets seized."

A spokesperson for the eco-group said: "You can throw as many injunctions at us as you like, but we are going nowhere.

"You can raid our savings and confiscate our property. You can deny us our liberty and put us behind bars.

"But that is only shooting the messenger.

"The truth is that this country is going to hell unless you take emergency action to stop putting carbon into the air."

Responding to the injunction last week, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps tweeted: "Invading a motorway is reckless & puts lives at risk."

He added: "Activists will face contempt of court with possible imprisonment if they flout."

Home Secretary Priti Patel also condemned the demonstrators, saying: "We will not tolerate lives being put at risk.

"Those who continue to do so risk imprisonment."

The High Court order came into force on Wednesday morning.

It prevents anyone from "blocking, endangering, slowing down, preventing, or obstructing the free flow of traffic onto or along or off the M25 for the purposes of protesting".

Insulate Britain - an offshoot of the environmental campaign group, Extinction Rebellion - have angered motorists on some of Britain's busiest roads with their controversial protests.

The group are demanding that the government take action on climate change policies, such as insulating homes across the country.

Insulate Britain spokesperson, Zoe Cohen, told the BBC: "The people taking part in these actions understand that the risks they are taking are because that we have tried everything else to make the Government protect us from the predicted impacts of climate chaos."

"That involves the loss of all that we cherish, our society, our way of life and law and order.

"We're calling for the installation and whole house retrofitting of social housing by 2025 and all homes by 2030, because this is the most effective way to reduce emissions, save lives from fuel poverty."
