GEORGE TOWN: Six people including three foreigners were arrested in two separate raids after police seized 107.5kg of syabu worth RM3.87mil off a jetty in the south-west district of the island.
The raids held between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on Monday (Sept 20) were a joint operation by the Penang marine police and Penang Narcotics Crime Investigations Department.
Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said two locals and three foreigners were arrested in the first raid at the jetty.
In a separate raid at another location in south Seberang Prai on the mainland, another local was arrested at a house in Bukit Tambun, he said.
The suspects arrested, aged between 30 and 55, are believed to be involved in the drug trade since early this month.
"The drugs are believed to be bound for neighbouring countries," Comm Mohd Shuhaily told a press conference at the Penang police contingent headquarters here on Wednesday (Sept 22).
The suspects are under a seven-day remand until Sept 27.
He said the police also seized two cars, two motorcycles and RM1,000 cash, all amounting to about RM17,800.
He added that the suspects’ urine tests came back negative.
They will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
