Emergency services were unable to save the woman in her 70s in affluent Didsbury, Manchester, this morning. Neighbours on the quiet cul-de-ac shared their devastation of the news.

A forensic tent is in place in the front garden of a house on the road, reports Manchester Evening News.

But officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Greater Manchester Constabulary spokesman said: "Police were called around 8.30am today (29 November) to Maywood Avenue, Manchester to a report of a body being found.

"Emergency services attended and a woman, believed to be in her 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

One heartbroken neighbour, who doesn't wish to be named, said: "She will be sorely missed by everyone on this estate, she knew everyone and their kids by first name."

Another resident said: "We had no idea what was going on, there was just loads of police around and at the house. Everybody is very shocked.

"She was well liked by everyone."

A third said: "I woke up and saw a huge police presence outside, everyone is in shock here."

Didsbury is in the south of city, near to its border with the Borough of Stockport.
