PETALING JAYA: The Customs Department managed to collect RM42.5bil in revenue last year, surpassing its initial target of RM40bil, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Prime Minister said aside from that, the Customs Department's enforcement unit also managed to seize its largest haul by stopping a major international drug cartel, seizing 16 tonnes of drugs worth RM5.2bil.
"I would like to congratulate and thank all members and officers of the Customs Department for the success they achieved, although we are still facing global uncertainties, especially the threats from the Covid-19 and natural disasters," he said in his address in conjunction with International Customs Day 2022.
The theme of this year's celebration is “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem”.
