It’s almost over.

       Thursday carried the threat of becoming the fourth consecutive day of severe weather in the Chicago area, but forecasters say after any potential storms subside, the pattern that’s downed trees and led to power outages will finally end.

       Not only will Friday break the cycle and stay dry, but the weekend is also looking dry and cooler, with high temperatures closer to the low 80s than low 90s, according to the National Weather Service.

       But area residents first have to contend with “one more warm, humid and unsettled day today,” forecasters said.

       “A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to develop across northern Illinois later this afternoon, and move southeast across the area through this evening. Damaging winds are the main threat,” the weather service said on its website.

       Storms, some of which may be isolated or “widely-scattered” could develop earlier in the afternoon, ahead of the main line, which is expected in the Chicago area between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. — earlier for those who live in the far western or far northwest suburbs.

       Once again, experts say, the winds could be strong enough to uproot trees, “torrential downpours,” and large hail.
