       The road was closed early Wednesday in both directions between North Capitol Street and Fourth Street NE.

       Part of New York Avenue in downtown Washington is closed because of a police shooting.

       Few details were immediately available. The road is closed in both directions between North Capitol Street and Fourth Street NE. Police are investigating an incident in which a police officer shot a person early Wednesday.

       There is no estimate as to when the road will reopen.

       Executive Assistant Police Chief Ashan Benedict said drivers should “avoid this area.”

       “It’s going to be pretty hectic for the morning rush hour,” he said.
