PETALING JAYA: The sewerage treatment plant (STP) allegedly linked to hundreds of dead fish in Sungai Penchala has stepped forward saying that they are not the source of the pollution.
Speaking through an official statement released on its social media pages, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) said that their sewage treatment plant near Sungai Penchala was operating in good condition.
“Upon receiving complaints about the dead fishes, we acted immediately to identify assets that were located in the mentioned area.
"It was found that the sewerage treatment plant (STP - PJA 181-EA) and a network pump station (PJA 389) just a few kilometres from the area were in good working condition and the effluent discharge is of the standards stipulated by the Environment Department (DOE),” it said.
The statement also said that IWK operates and maintains all its STPs in compliance with DOE’s standards to ensure preservation of the environment and public health.
“We view matters related to illegal discharge and pollution seriously. We also ask the public to continue providing their support by reporting to the authorities should incidents like that take place,” it said.
