KUALA LUMPUR: Graft-busters spent more than three hours at the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) office here and seized documents in an investigation into allegations of abuse of power and mismanagement into Mara’s investment holding company Mara Corp.
Sources said that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers were believed to have brought out several bags full of documents relevant to the investigation.
Earlier on Monday (Feb 7), MACC investigators raided Mara offices at Jalan Mara, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Bukit Bintang here.
“We take these allegations, of possible mismanagement involving several senior officers in Mara who are being investigated internally by Mara, seriously.
“The case will be investigated under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009,” MACC said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 5).
On Friday (Feb 4), Mara chairman Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun said Mara has begun investigations into Mara Corp to review relevant documents to ensure that the company’s management maintains good governance.
She said this following the unauthorised public dissemination of internal administrative documents.
“If there is any misconduct in the governance of subsidiaries under this agency, Mara will never compromise or protect any individual involved,” she said.
